Hi Q, you write "I wouldn't feel right about getting paid to do something so easy as calculating old crop corn risk." With this in mind I know that many here sold ahead or at harvest or a month or 2 later. In August, the extent of the flooding in China was known(https://www.scmp.com/video/china/3093980/why-has-flooding-been-so-severe-china-year) (https://www.winknews.com/2020/08/08/everything-is-gone-flooding-in-china-ruins-farmers-and-risks-rising-food-prices/). Then August 10 and the derecho in Iowa(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fYQOnGt9EI) which was big news here at Agtalk. The only surprise since then is the now unfolding Brazil safrinha corn problem.
If you moved quickly when the first 2 weather events unfolded and have your clients from that time forward positioned so that they have benefitted thru the runup we have, and may continue to experience, I congratulate you.
