How times have changed. I started with a JD General Purpose, not a G and a 2 row Black Hawk planter. The plow had a trip rope, 2 14" bottoms and a disk that I think was about 7 feet wide. The disk had a gearbox that when you pulled the rope it would change the angle of the gangs.
Now we rent our farm out so the operator has a place to turn with their equipment.
