Pittsburg, Kansas | If a person never travels to tropical destinations they may never have heard of Dengue fever. We have seen the signs displayed in more than one place we have traveled saying to avoid it by avoiding mosquitoes (right - like that is possible). Bonaire has had the signs posted several different years we have traveled there when there has been an outbreak or an outbreak in nearby Venezuela. Carolynn and I have never caught it.
My understanding is it is a VERY painful disease. I think the word means "break bones" and it supposedly feels like your bones are breaking it is so painful in the bones. I just looked it up on the CDC site and found it interesting that only about one if four people that get infected will get sick. I find that very interesting in that it appears only about 20% of people infected with sars cov-2 (covid 19) become ill. They are both virus disease.

Note on the CDC site they say there is no treatment. Doctors have been finding that ivermectin appears to be helpful with Dengue in the same manner it helps with covid 19.
There is not a lot of incentive for drug companies to explore the efficacy of these old off patent drugs on current diseases. It is up to the doctors on the ground to find out of they help. So it was with ivermectin and covid 19. Expensive, large scale trials are usually funded by the drug companies in their effort to create the next blockbuster selling drug. They are not going to focus their attention on something that will only cost them with no monetary benefit at the end. So trials will tend to be small and funded by donations.
