Subject: RE: Experience is a Good Teacher

Good stories. When I was growing up in PA we grew tomatoes. Planted with a single row transplanter pulled by a farmall A. The A had the motor offset front center so the driver could look straight down at the row you were straddling. Usually had two people on the planter but my older brother liked to be on it by himself and see if he could keep up without a skip. A couple days after planting we would get a handful of plants and a little hand spade and walk the rows. We would replant any skips, spindly plants or where they died or got eaten Dad would mix a granular starter fertilizer with the water to get the tomatoes a little kickstart. Dad would drive and mom and us kids would take turns on the planter. When not on the planter our job was to sort through the plants and throw out the small, spindly, or broken ones. Good memories, though I didn’t think so at the time. Thanks for the post
