That is kind of my take also. This researcher would argue we need more salt, especially if we go on a low carb diet.

It is true there is lots of salt in processed foods and drinks. All the more reason if a person cuts most of that out of the diet there may be a need to replace it when going to mostly whole natural foods.

James DiNicolantonio is the researcher and author of "The Salt Fix" book. We have it on audiobooks and it is quite good. He says only a small portion of the population (single digit percentage) is sensitive to salt for hypertension yet that small group is the grounds for the dietary guidelines on salt.
