Aggieland | The only way to stop getting nailed by credit card thieves is to do like I do.....just stay broke all the time! Seriously!
I have gotten to the point where I only keep $500 in the account tied to the debit cards and the rest is in a savings account that is tied to nothing. I manually transfer over money as needed into the bank acct. i do not ever recommend having the auto transfer to prevent overdraft. My bank has a friendly website and we have email alerts set to alert us when we get to $100 or overdrawn and when we do we just log in and transfer money. No overdraft is ever charged as we take care of it the same day. Now yes this does take a little effort but it’s a lot less effort than dealing with the theft issue and waiting for the bank to make you whole.
We also use our rewards CC for most everything and I get instant notification when my wife or one of the employees use their card so that’s also a good layer of protection.
Thieves suck.
