S Illinois | 3 different profit centers between farming margin, grain bin storage, and futures appreciation. Can make money on all three or loose. However profitably from futures gain is not because of grain storage. That is completely speculation. No need to have a million dollar grain setup to take advantage of the futures price run up.
We seldom hear about all the money lost from storing grain say the last couple of years. A lot of grain was held from over $4 in Dec 2019 to low $3’s in summer of 2020. Bins just give a false sense safety because no one marks to market their grain inventory daily. | |
