Subject: RE: Question on Dryer Belt Replacement

I'm surprised it just rides on felt. You're sure the back of the dryer drum isn't on a stud and greased plastic bushing/bearing? That's how most I've seen are setup and had a couple apart. They get to squealing, that will make a hot/burnt smell. Actually got to do the job twice on one of them. First time I noticed the stud was a little rough but decided to just put the bearing side in (I have no idea why) and it was fine for a week then took it all apart again, had to buy a new kit with the stud and bushing and replace it all. Our belt was fine but I'm guessing the back drum support stud/bearing is worn on yours and making it smell hot.

OR: You might have loosened up dust in there that is burning on the heating element, but I would think that would either start a fire or go away pretty quickly!
