North of London | May have to take all that into considerations over marketing my wheat.
Although I grow soft red winter it can be impacted some by your weather
Running on dry side here too.
Forages are all planted in this area with small grain cover crop.
That was done in March which is the second time in my history of farming that it was done in March, other time was in 2012
Although I think my father planted small grains and forages? in March one time in his farming career it is unusual to get land dry though to work in March or even early April.
We have had 3 days in April already that land was fit to work and in my 37 years of records I average 5.9 days I could work land in April and there are a number of years when there were 0 days land was fit to work.
We do have a different climate with usually adequate rain through out the season.
I average 78.3mm in April and has been as low as 26.5 and as high as 127 in the month
BTW in 2012 the only other year I have planted alfalfa in March we had 22.5 days that the ground was fit to work in April and that was the low rainfall of only 26.5mm so maybe we are also setting up for drier than normal | |
