I agree, I think the well has dried up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see crop insurance take a hit. Over my years farming the total yearly payments are fairly consistent, the name just changes. If it’s called pik, eqip, direct, ldp or ppp what difference does it make, but for some reason there is a lot more howling this time.
Most of my farms have no base acres so payments pretty much been nothing until the last 2 years where they have used planted acres and/or actual production. I can see why people with base acres love them if this is how they have been getting paid in the past. Oh well, land and rent prices probably reflect that in the small area where I farm. |
