Subject: RE: Pressurised Cistern Question/Idea

NC KS
Don't know about the bypass switch but several years ago, our windmill pumped into a cistern about a 1/4 mile away (well was a 1/4 mile from farmstead). Cistern had a float system that would shut off windmill when cistern was full. Above the cistern was a small insulated building that housed a pressure tank and a shallow well jet pump with suction line going to the bottom of the cistern. Worked good unless you had a few days of no wind in the summer.

If doing what you are proposing, I would use a 1/3 or 1/2 hp submersible pump in the cistern. Might be cheaper to use a black poly tank of 3000-6000 gallon capacity.
