My wifes family was devastated by a second marriage without a prenup.     We all thought the lady was so nice and she would never do that.  Wrong.    They bought a house together but kept everything else separate.   Things changed as soon as he died.  She took it all, except, she forgot they had bought the house before they were married so my wife at least got a fourth of the house.

If there are assets involved, just enjoy each others company and simplify it for your kids.
