Subject: Re: Variable Rate N using Site Mate VRA

SW Kansas
We farm in SW Kansas and used a Raven Viper and 4400 to VRA both NH3 and 10-34-0 with an Orthman 12 row 30" strip till rig. We did not have a distributor on the liqid last year so we were using orfices which caused the need for the tractor to change speed to maintain the target rates. That was not good so we are installing John Blue distributors to help regulate the liquid flow. We are not sure of the accuracy of the John Blue distributor but it has to be better than what we did last year. We tried to use a iPaq running Farm Works VRA to run the Raven 4400 but we were never able to get everything to talk to each other. We plan to set up another applicator this year with the iPaq on it. Have talked to Farm Works to get their help on communication issue. We have been collecting yield data for about 8 yrs so we used the yield data and elevation maps to drive the prescription maps.
