Donaldson manufactures a lot of the filters and the housings they go in and I follow their recommendations as much as I can. They say discard and replace after three cleanings or every year. It says right on the filter housings to not over service elements. I try to go by the filter restriction gauges more than hours or time for when to clean or replace.
In reality, some of my less used tractors might go three or four years on a filter with a couple cleanings and be under 500 hours. The newer combine and tillage tractors follow the recommended one or two cleanings and replace yearly.

I have done repair and rebuilds for customers for years and I personally think daily cleaning is a bad policy as I've seen too many filters with holes in them or filters improperly installed that caused engine damage. I have added precleaner systems to customer equipment to reduce the amount of filter cleaning needed for them to get longer life out of filters and not need daily cleaning.
