$10-12 K would get you a decent used one if you shop around and stay off dealer lots. Look for an older owner hanging up their keys. If they are proud of it they will have meticulous repair records from day 1 and be able to tell you all you want to know about it.
My suggestion would be to stay with the Chevy/Ford F450 type Class C.
