I don't think it works like that. OW40 oil I believe flows like a 0W when it is cold but is a 40W when it is at operating temp. It is my understanding these newer cars are pretty particular about their oil specs. I run 5W40 oil and will run it in any diesel or any gas that calls for a 10W30 but I buy 0W20 or 5W20 for the cars that call for it.
