NW Iowa | Back in 1978 I was in the office at a local Deere dealer trying to get a new 4440 bought. The salesman was not in a good mood, I could tell that right away. After we talked awhile he calmed down a bit and unloaded on me a story about a customer he had just dealt with. The customer was always critical of the mechanics, claiming the mechanics were incompetent in everything they did. One day that fall this critical farmer called the dealer about his combine that lost power. The dealer sent out one of his “incompetent” mechanics and the mechanic found an air cleaner plugged so tight the mechanic had to cut it out in pieces. The salesman didn’t elaborate any farther. | |
