Lacombe, Alberta | Hi we're hoping to build a new milking parlour and I'm wondering about milking with only one person. I'm wondering if one person can load new heifers into a newish parallel parlour without help. We have a 20 year old Delaval parallel with the floor mounted flipper gates and my dad has a 15 year old GEA/Daritech that's similar. Both parlours can take two people to load a new stubborn heifer: one to push and one to point the heifer's head to the right spot. I'm wondering if a newer parlour with the flipper gates mounted on the front vertical lift loads better. Can I milk every new animal by myself and get them to turn to the right spot or do I need a herringbone parlour instead? Nothing on the floor in the way. I looked at a used double 12 Germania with 45 inch stalls and arm takeoffs but that parlour is so big compared to a parallel but the cows load well because there's nothing to teach, just follow the cow in front. | |
