North Carolina | do you want a tandem axle or single axle so you can top dress, is first question to ask yourself..If you want to top dress what is your row width, mid size 9ft 10ft (170 to 200) cuft boxes will be 60 or 72in track width, flip wheels around for 60 or 72. larger boxes I think have adjustable axles with minimum 90 inch out to 120. Bar over belt&chain would be best but pricey, and usually just on larger spreaders they are 50k minimum and up. mid size 200 cuft box on 60 to 72in track width 20" to 24" mesh chain will run 25k ish +or- 2k for direct hydraulic hookup to tractor and 35k +or-3k for self contained hydraulics where you run it off tractor pto. Hydraulic for variable rate. Ground drive on mid size 9ft box will run you 25k +or-2k..
As far as brands to get, look at tractor house.com and look at the number of spreaders each brand has listed for sale. This gives you idea of what their market share is.
Also big difference in spreading width of lime with some mid size spreader brands..and its not due to spinner speed, read their product manual
Chandler 30ft
Newton crouch 45ft
salford 60ft
Buy new not used, look at last years fertilizer bill. It'll pay for itself soon enough | |
