Buy a copy of the workshop manual, preferably the digital version as the locations of harnesses, lines, connectors, etc are clearly illustrated.
Your library may have an AllData subscription, but the information can be lacking.
The EPA has cracked down hard on emission alterations. Winking while signing an off road use waiver is no longer sufficient. It is still performed, but you will need connections. Shops will turn away someone off the street.
