I just put in my max bid and let it go with that I'm usually outbid sometimes I get it I've never bought anything for my max bid but have lost by the next bid over many times. I will add though the only auctions that I put in a max bid are iron planet, purple wave and auction time.
Just bought a couple of things on hand planet for quite a bit less than my max bid and I've got some things coming up for sale on it on March 3rd. I have an STS-10 that's going to be on auction time that the dealer is listing for me
