Wonder if last year's dryness plays into the erratic frost depths?

I will say yes. Guys have been fencing all winter, no one I've talked to said they've seen anything over 8", and its all flour underneath. High school classmate of mine digs graves at cemeteries in a 60mile radius and hasn't used his frost bucket yet. Only had 1 give him issues and that was because the "neighbor" had been watered extensively last year. He forgot and it took a few hours to dig it. Was far enough from home it wouldn't have made any difference in time to get his frost bucket. He beat the funeral procession by about 20 minutes.
