Subject: RE: 148 years of newspapers

South Central Kansas
The Wichita Eagle was printed in Wichita until a few years ago, then printed in Kansas City with the KC Star. The Eagle was a pretty good newspaper until they got sole to Knight-Ridder in the 80, they got even worse when they were sold to McClatchey a few years back.

We dropped the daily subscription when they could not deliver the Eagle by mail on the same day it was published. Held on to the Sunday, which was thrown in our drive until three years ago. New carrier and he missed us half the time..

Sports coverage is terrible and editorial is even worse. It's prohibitive to publish a full obituary, only death notices are still free.

Dropped the Winfield Courier about the same time, they have become an arm of the Democrat party. I'll read it there if they are sitting on the table at the One Stop.

The Daily Oklahoman was the best paper in the region until the Gaylord family sold it a few years ago. Now it is published in Tulsa and is a former shell of itself.

Sand times.
