Standard practice here. Have one pasture that we can run 30-35 cows in and like to have more than one bull. Usually run the oldest bull with a new 12-18 month old for that group. No fighting or it don’t last long if it does. New guy learns the ropes, old guy has back-up. Put the 24-48 month old bulls with groups of 20-25 by themselves.


Ever consider running a younger bull of a different breed so it’s obvious how many, if any, he bred? Like say cows and old bull are black, young bull a Char? See if you get any smokies the next spring?
