All I can say is I can certainly empathize with you!
I always remove the grease zerk if it has one and fill the caps mostly with grease to help hold the needles in place. Few things more aggravating than getting two caps almost pressed home, then finding out there is a needle that fell out and is laying in the end of the cap.
