McCanna, ND		That’s the way I’ve been told/taught and seems to hold true for the two states I drive in all the time (ND,MN).

When I was in Missouri a year or so ago I noticed they had mile markers every 0.2 miles, yes 2/10ths of a mile. Talk about spending $$$ on road signs.
