I wonder if maybe the optical laser has something wrong with it? Like maybe it works enough to spin up the disk, then it fails to read the disk and doesn’t show anything for drive E.
Probably a dumb question, but have your tried a CD or DVD that you know to be working on another computer or DVD player? Just to see if your disk is maybe the problem.
