Subject: RE: Data on Cover crops, no till infiltration rates

West TN
We have replicated 38’ plots on our farm that we started in 2015 comparing no till vs intensive cover crops.

In 2017 we performed infiltration tests in the spring with soil at field capacity:

1st inch of water:
No Till 2”/hr infiltration rate
Cover crop 62” per hour

2nd inch of water:
No till water was not infiltrated after 1 hour
Cover crop 12” per hour

The picture below were taken on one of these plots in summer of 2018 after 1.5” of rain. The field has a gentle 2% slope and I’m standing at the end of the rows at the bottom of the slope.

The first picture is of a no till plot. The second picture is of a cover crop plot. The third picture is where the plots meet. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

All of our data from these plots and other plots are on our website www.griggsfarmsllc.com
