SW Ont | Dump what you pick-up in the general area you want it to do it's business.
Figure out when it wants to go and take it to that general area at that time.
Had a pair that usually did that job after eating.
Waited for them to eat and then took them out to the field right away, before they could go in the yard. Hung around in the field at least until the job was done.
Took a bunch of everyday repeats but eventually they would finish eating and head to the field without human guidance.
Different dog, same type of story.
We got it as a pup in the winter time.
It was indoors a lot, so the first challenge was getting it to know it needed to be outside for that task.
Springtime came and having learned it should go outside (on the snow), it was always looking for a spot where the snow had drifted and wasn't completely melted. Fortunately the last one to melt was 'behind the barn'. When the drift finally disappeared it continued to think 'behind the barn' was the correct location. | |
