Subject: RE: Soil moisture probes

Northwest Illinois
Thanks, I had John Deere field connect one of the first years they come out with it. Gave up as maybe I wasn’t bright enough to do anything with that data. Plus it was a wet period. Pivots here are more fill in and some years don’t run. 05, 12, and 20 stick out for lack of rainfall. Might have to look into it. 100s of pivots locally and honestly don’t know many that have moisture probes. I think it would be great for my land. Lots of second guessing going on when to run. Cool Dewey nights I sometimes leave them off where others run according to rain gauge. Lack of roots going down I see makes it a challenge to water efficiently. Roots not going down due to hard layer in my sands. Better soils don’t have it on my program and roots will go down. It’s the opposite of what most think. Lots to learn with changing variables.
