I think this is a true statement but it's early days. Pfizer and Moderna are already working on booster shots just in case new variants are resistant to current mRNA vaccines. I certainly hope we can get enough people vaccinated before new variants become the predominant virus in the US. That also goes for getting enough people worldwide vaccinated.
