Subject: Cat Skid Loader fuel tank

I have a Cat 277 CHF skid loader. It appears we have some crud in the fuel tank. Changed fuel filter twice. It will start and idle but won't run any more than an idle. Starved for fuel. When we blow air into the fuel tank through the fuel line, fuel will run out but after running it, it seems to get plugged again.

Cat tech said they have to pull the engine to get the fuel tank out. He thinks there is a screen inside the tank that gets plugged. Could it be something that settled out of the fuel, like summer-grade biodiesel? We use it in turkey barns with wood shavings and oat hulls. Could fuel cap fail and allow some of that to get in the tank? Anyone have experience with this problem? Any alternatives to pulling the engine and fuel tank?

We tried sucking fuel out of the tank but its difficult to get a hose to pull the bottom 1" of fuel.
