Subject: RE: Cost for drilling a well?

northeastern Ohio
I had two wells drilled in the past 10 years. First one was 200+ feet and cost $7700 including 1 hp pump. Second one was 60 feet and cost $4000 including 3/4 hp pump.

New well might solve your problem..... or it might not. I think that sometimes aquifers get "mixed" when neighbors drill wells nearby and don't case off the upper ones. So if your bad water is at 65' and you neighbor drills down to 150, but only cases to 40 feet, the two aquifers get mixed together and then both are bad. Or they "forget" to grout the outside of the casing and you get surface water into the aquifer. Or neighbors casing has rusted through and their septic is 10 feet away (coliform would be high)....

Your steel casing could be contributing to your iron problem. You might consider using a plastic casing on the new well.
