I'm not sure the borer damages the wood.
I have sawn a number of ash logs out.
Just have to get them before they deteriorate

Many are just too small to saw efficiently and although I do not know what the value of logs are right now I expect there is so much ash available that its value is low.

Last time I had a mill in we needed a quantity of 1X6 inch boards so sawed out a lot of smaller stems where we would only get 6-8 boards from them.
Do not have a need for any ash lumber right now so I now consider those small stems as firewood too.

There is certainly a lot of downed trees in any woodlot in the area now and many more still standing although dead.

Hate dropping those dead trees, they do not flex, just stand there until you have cut almost high through and then let go, no 'hinge', and way too many dead branches above your head
