Beresford, SD | A 2012 type drought has been top of mind since silage cutting last fall. Reviewed insurance plans last week. Split applying N, applying only 100 units of N preplant, top dress the other 80-120 units if it rains. (Coop will carry over my prepaid fertilizer to 2022 if needed) If soil profile is not replenished by planting I will cut population 5,000. Will not seed any new seeded alfalfa or uninsurable crops in 2021. If soil profile is as dry as it was last fall......Max acres of corn will be planted. Many made fun of my thoughts of drought last fall. Be nice to get a big crop with good prices, but if we have great prices and silage, insurance will fill the void just fine.
Pic, drilling holes last fall to run cornstalks.......flour!
