Subject: Stiens vs crossbred

Would like feedback on those who have fed both on differences they have seen. We feed predominantly all straight holsteins. Come in as wet calves or at 350lbs. Have fed a few crosses. Always fed them just like the stiens. They seem to finish around 1350 to 1375. My hang up is my Holstein average kill weigh year to date is 1565. Takes 30 days longer but 200lb more to sell. I know more feed but seems like gross dollars always wins. More crosses becoming available all the time it seems. Needing to load more young calves just debating. Leaning towards straight holstein as cheaper up front, we are less than 100 miles from Plainwell, and I just like to feed big steers.
