Subject: don't want them

Lubbock, Texas
lets get one thing clear I have nothing at all against gambling, but it is a horrible business

the industry is well beyond mature there are no new gamblers and gambling dollars in the USA and competition for entertainment dollars grows more fierce every day

casinos (outside of Las Vegas in the USA) NEVER deliver on their economic promises or revenues to the state or local government

every new casino comes at the expense of an existing one and more so at the expense of the quality of the experience you get when you go to them.....you are just building more infrastructure and overhead to serve the limited (and shrinking) amount of dollars that people are willing to gamble in the USA and that comes with increased room, restaurant, drink, and entertainment prices

casinos take away from local business and attractions.....numerous studies on the one in New Orleans prove this (a casino that went BK while it was still in a temporary location and then went BK a second time just after the new real casino opened)

in New Orleans they promised they would not need a hotel......they immediately moved to get a hotel after opening and pursued it endlessly until they got one....same with numerous bars and restaurants

look at most of the places that have casinos they are generally dumps outside of the casinos and generally it seems like the more they have the bigger dump they are starting with Atlantic City

if you live in a state without gambling and you have a politician pushing it then you have a loser for a politician that has given up on anything and everything as far as trying to have a productive economy

to me it is like some idiot politicians wanting to sell liquor on Sunday in Texas.......take out the religious aspect of it to me (religion being important to me, but not a factor in this), but from a business standpoint even smaller liquor stores are against it because they know the increased staffing and the pain of being open 7 days a week is not worth the extra sales

then look at it from a common sense standpoint......if you cannot find a way to buy your liquor during one of the other 6 days a week that liquor stores are open then you are a moron or you are too busy to be drinking.......if you cannot buy your liquor a day or 2 or 3 before the Sunday when you want to drink and refrain from drinking it before Sunday.....then you are a drunk and a loser....I have no interest in catering to either of those groups and driving up the cost to a small business owner to cater to them....especially because some moron politician added up the tax dollars from liquor sales and divided it by 6 and then multiplied it by 7 and thought that represents all the new tax revenue from selling liquor 7 days a week instead of 6......you can guess which political persuasion came up with that math....hint the ones that call themselves so much more "caring" about the "down trodden" and the "little guy"....well right up to and until it comes time to make tax money off their dependency and lack of self control

iboth gambling and liquor sales expanding is like the difference between Chick Fil A and McDonalds.....one tries to sell a product people actually want with a very high level of service and they are willing to close one day a week (for religion), but lets be honest that makes it a very appealing place to work as well...they do all the can to drive as much business as possible through each single restaurant and the owner of the restaurant has a high level in the day to day management of the restaurant he does not have 20 stores that has has not set foot in for 5 years....that is like the Las Vegas of old....massive business running through a location with a high degree of service

McDonalds on the other hand is like a locals casino they want they are aiming for the "give up" business and people that have panhandled 10 dollars on the corner and McDonalds is the closest place they can stumble to after they bought their MD 2020 and they will put a burger warmer and a fry station in a porta john if they think they can make a dollar doing it...and their food quality and service level proves it

I view gambling in Texas the same way....if you are too busy or too broke to get to one of the casinos in Louisiana, Oklahoma, or New Mexico then you do not have time to gamble and if you are too broke to make the trip then you are too broke and stupid to have access to gambling made easier for you

and I also go with the idea that Texas does not have to covet the tax dollars (the little there really is) and any of the other economic aspects of other states getting those gambling dollars....I expect that Texas can come up with something better and probably better for the economy and society overall than tossing up some crappy casino or putting some slots in a converted truck stop bathroom
