southern MN | I’d mention it to the landlord just as a point of interest, and not get too worried until thaw season comes around.
Converting stalks to manure is good for your crop until compaction becomes an issue. Maybe that is a closer thing ‘there’ than it would be here where I am.

Edit. Reread the question, you farmed it last year and the landlord rented out your stalks over winter? That’s maybe a little different, seems odd.
