Subject: RE: batteries for electrical storage

Kettle Moraine, WI
Another thing Tesla concept is to use the used batteries from autos for home energy storage as the reduced capacity of used batteries is not a problem for energy storage (not a problem if lower kwh for same battery weight).

As of 2-3 years ago when I was reading about Tesla Power walls (home wall mounted batteries) they required wifi connection to work and don't work when power is grid is not supplying power. Unless something changed or electricians learned to wire it different the battery stays connected to the grid and the homeowners owning the battery can't use it when neighbors are out of power. That is a reason why I was thinking about getting a powerwall so it ended it consideration for me.

If I recall my thoughts from then correctly it appears Tesla wanted to be the one to decide the amount kwh to store locally into the battery and the amount to send to the grid (in a solar or home one-off peak management situation)
