Many pits around here will have a pump in them to automatically get rid of water whenever it seeps in.
Thanks for the pictures and as others noted that shovel looks like hard work and would be most difficult to use in our clay.
We would use what we refer to as a round mouthed shovel.
Still would get clogged up with our clay sticking to it in those conditions
