One of the first things I asked when I moved in and went over things was where is the water shut off. PO kind of knew but wasn't sure, didn't have a clue why I'd care. I was already amazed how shallow water lines are down here. Mine doesn't even have a tube, literally just a buried cover about 18" down that you have to dig up then hope it isn't full of mud. Definitely not something they ever thought about needing done in an emergency. Not just for burst pipes, but I don't know how you would replace a bad faucet or toilet valve if you can't shut off the water supply.
