Near death experiences (NDE) are interesting.

There is scientific explanations for them involving the brain shutting down bit by bit.

Other religious believers have them too as well as those who have no belief and the experience is usually reported as confirming their beliefs or life experiences so Muslims see their god in it, Baptists see theirs and Catholics see theirs.

There are operating rooms with messages in locations that can not be seen at eye level and so far any NDE's have failed to see those messages when they reported floating above the operating table during an NDE.

There are also NDE that are not pleasant..

Was looking for info that I remembered but found this instead which describes some of what researchers have found and understand about them so far and there is lots unknown so far.
Now if you are a believer then you will just say 'a god did it' but those with open minds are still looking for the best explanation in reality.

Modern death requires irreversible loss of brain function. When the brain is starved of blood flow (ischemia) and oxygen (anoxia), the patient faints in a fraction of a minute and his or her electroencephalogram, or EEG, becomes isoelectric—in other words, flat. This implies that large-scale, spatially distributed electrical activity within the cortex, the outermost layer of the brain, has broken down. Like a town that loses power one neighborhood at a time, local regions of the brain go offline one after another. The mind, whose substrate is whichever neurons remain capable of generating electrical activity, does what it always does: it tells a story shaped by the person’s experience, memory and cultural expectations.

Given these power outages, this experience may produce the rather strange and idiosyncratic stories that make up the corpus of NDE reports. To the person undergoing it, the NDE is as real as anything the mind produces during normal waking. When the entire brain has shut down because of complete power loss, the mind is extinguished, along with consciousness. If and when oxygen and blood flow are restored, the brain boots up, and the narrative flow of experience resumes.

It goes on to explain how pilots and astronauts in training have been spun around to give G forces of 5 and pass out experiencing what is referred to as NDE lite with similar reports of peaceful feelings and out of body experiences.

I still think any god sending people to this 'hell' for torture because they did not 'just believe in it' is not a very kind, loving god
