Subject: Death Loss in Dairy and Dairy Cross Steers

Central MN
What is typically death loss for most guys? I feel ours is was too much last year so trying to do a better job this year. If my calculations are correct, we had 12 head out of 461 last year, which is roughly 2.6%. 8 from respiratory issues, 2 with stomach issues, and 2 for no reason I could identify. Assuming most are probably in the same boat as me but what are some tips to reduce these rates even further? We follow a stringent vaccination schedule but sometimes they get sick anyway and antibiotics just don't seem to work. We also cull groups that are "lungers" when they are doing okay and replace with a new group.
