Central Illinois | I had been stationed at NAS Corpus Christi for about eight months, and it hadn’t rained in that whole time. Dust would swirl around every day, wind whipping it this way and that. Bit by bit, it got packed down on the highway. We Finally got a rain, if you can call a couple tenths a rain. It didn’t wash any dirt off, but it did turn that packed down dirt on the highway into — SNOT! Slimy, slick, grease like snot! Cars went every which way. It was as bad as any ice storm I had seen.
Then, 1970 style, I learned something about Texas. At the time, plates stayed with the car. Sell the car, your plates went with it. Also, 1970 style, there were a LOT of $50 cars. And the owners never worried about updating the registration on those cars. Some cars had changed hands two or three, but the registration was in the old owners name. When the new owner wrecked that $50 car, they just walked away. Imagine the surprise when the original owner got a call to come take care of their car? | |
