I did exactly what you are describing last spring after the county dug out my road ditch. Yes there is some road gravel in it but I put it in poor soil spots so it doesn't matter too much. This spring the corn in this area looked weak but started looking better as it warmed up. I fully believe after I hit the area with some extra fertilizer it will be fine.
