Beresford, SD | Usually put corn in the bins 18-19, last year pushed 22, this year probably close to 12. All depends on the year. Last year I started the fans as soon as the floor was covered and didn’t shut them off until froze up. Turned fans back on in the spring. If over 18% one must be constantly be pulling some grain out every day. Last year I adjusted my rations and fed corn all year. If 18% I’ll feed up my earlage first. At 22% one has to be on your toes. Was really close to my big west bin heating up. Set up auger and transferred to the other bin to get rolled and fed. I wouldn’t advise storing over 20% as a normal plan.....but it was a Necessity last year. 18% is ideal for my set up. This 12% stuff is dusty, but have 6 bins I’ve never turned a fan on!
