Don't know if that always holds true. Have experimented with biologicals for enhanced root growth/yield over the last 3-4 years. One year a company rep came out and we dug up some corn plant's @ V-6 stage, did root checks in different fields where we had test strips. Treated areas had noticeably more fine root hairs. Come harvest time there was no yield difference. So, what's that tell me? Does that mean the normal root system is adequate to supply the corn plant's needs? It was a good growing year, good soils, good fertility. Maybe under stress it might have helped. But the last few years have been good, other than too much water in the spring.
It tells me that fine roots were not the yield limiting factor. That is what i struggle with on alot of products.
My number one limiting factor is water. Too much water in the spring (Tile is great) and not enough during the reproductive stages (no irrigation).
Do I still try with biologicals on occasion, yes. Still every year my limiting factor is not a biological or fertilizer, just plain old water. |
