Ontario | Simple, heated garden hose to a metal float. Running three groups like that. Put the trough so its protected from wind, yet gets afternoon sun. Placement makes a difference. Smash the ice and bang on the float every morning. Good to go unless it gets 20 below freezing for a couple days. We're not even running tank heaters. If you feel the need to do that might be fine till 30 below.
I realize this is somewhat "temporary" compared to a legit system. But the reason we have 3 groups not two at the moment is because the Ritchie heated bowl screwed off, and at -20C not exactly keen on working to put it back together. | |
