We've had stands survive from 2006 - 2018, and the only reason we tore it up was to make space for gravel mining. I've heard longer in other areas.
Because it spreads through rhizomes, it will theoretically last forever. If you're raising continuous corn in the kura, the N benefits will probably stop after one year because the clover gets beat up under the shade. It will survive, but it won't be as vigorous [competitive] in the second year, which can be a big benefit.
Vigorous enough after a couple years to keep other weeds at bay? Like waterhemp for example? If you still rotated in say a C-C-SB 3 year rotation, but went to rowed 30" beans vs. drilled, wonder how it would do. Probably a host for SCN? If so, would guess it wouldn't select for harder to control races of nematodes. Increased armyworm pressure? That'd be manageable, but Slugs and Voles longer term? What other possible herbicides could be used to temporarily set back, but not kill off kura?
Just some thoughts and questions. Any replies or thoughts much appreciated. |
