Seems like every week there is an new announcement to enroll in soil carbon sequestration projects.  Microsoft is buying and now the Outcomes Fund wants to add another 100 acres in IL, IA, or OH? 

Soil and Water Outcome Fund is enrolling 100,000 acres of cropland in Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio for 2021. If you farm or own land outside of those states, you may use this form to express interest in bringing the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund to your state in future years.

Please note that you must answer “yes” to the five questions below to be eligible to enroll:

• Are you in an eligible county / geographic area?

• Are your fields compliant with the USDA-FSA Highly Erodible Land and Wetland Conservation provisions?

• Are you willing to sign an environmental evaluation of each field? The evaluation will be prepared by Soil and Water Outcomes Fund representatives.

• Are you willing to add new conservation practices (e.g., cover crops, reduced tillage, extended rotations) to your existing cropping system? For reenrolls, are you willing to continue with your conservation practices?

• Are you committed to the sustainability of your farm and undertaking multi-year efforts to improve the health of soil and water on your land?

The Soil and Water Outcomes Fund is different from most government incentive or cost share programs. Payment is based on the environmental outcomes you produce, not the practices you implement. This approach offers you an opportunity to sell environmental outcomes as a commodity, similar to how you sell grain. The more environmental outcome “yield” you generate from the practices you implement, the more you’ll be paid.
